After a competitive first season last year in the Manchester Area Basketball League (MABL), the Ribble Valley Knights enter the 2012/13 season with expectations of at very least making the play-offs this year.
The competition in last year's Division 2 of the MABL included two teams that had been "placed" in that division due to re-organisation of the clubs, but the talent on their rosters meant that they were some way better than all other teams in the division. These two clubs (Bury & West Leigh) have now been promoted and thus the division should be much more evenly balanced this season.

We are pleased to say that the club has now been accepted on the Tesco "For Schools & Clubs" voucher scheme, and so we would encourage any supporters of the club to collect vouchers and hand them in at any practise or club function - or simply email us and we will collect from you! Vouchers will be exchanged for equipment for the club - we hope to have enough vouchers for some junior basketballs and coaching aids.
As part of the planned development and growth of our club, Ribble Valley Knights are now looking to increase the number of junior players with a view to organising competitive matches for juniors in various age groups. In order to achieve this we will require significant investment of funds and are hopeful that this will, in the main, be available through grants from sports bodies and from sponsorship by local businesses. However, in order to achieve the full club accreditation required to apply for many of the grants available, we first need to attain various standards in our club structure and affiliations to governing bodies, and to that end we are currently organising several fund-raising events in order to obtain the monies necessary to cover these initial investments in our organisation. Your support of these events would be most appreciated and will enable us to create a strong youth development programme for the future.
Now that the new backboards and baskets have been installed at Roefield Leisure Centre, we have arranged for a new regular "Open Scrimmage Session". This will take place on Sunday evenings between 6pm & 8pm and is (initially) open to all players who wish to compete at the senior level. Please see our Training Page for more details.
The Ribble Valley Knights featured in the November 11th edition of The Clitheroe Advertiser & Times. Our thanks go to "the Advertiser" for featuring the team in the Sports News section, thanks to that publicity we have already had a couple of new players join the club. We also hope to develop our association with the local paper and intend to post match reports and other team news as appropriate. So keep reading the Clitheroe Advertiser & Times and watch out for the Ribble Valley Knights on the sports pages!
After an extended delay to the remodelling of the Roefield Leisure Centre, the new basketball backboards and rings are finally in place!
